Yesterday afternoon I received a copy of this beautiful book in the mail, and I haven’t been able to put it down since.
With a release slated for next week, George Hurrell’s Hollywood: Glamour Portraits 1925-1992 is a gigantic book packed full of magnificent photos from this legendary photographer and, in between photos, details from Hurrell’s fascinating life. It is proving to be a must-read.
Stay tuned for a review as the release date approaches. In the meantime, if you would like to pre-order the book, you may do so by clicking here.
If you are not yet familiar with Hurrell’s photography, here are some of his breathtaking photographs:

Portrait of Katharine Hepburn

Portrait of Joan Crawford.

Portrait of Errol Flynn.

Portrait of Hedy Lamarr.
Mr, Hurrell was the photographic master and artist of glamour all since have aspired to be. There were others at his time less known. I have a story. I worked with Mr. Hurrell in his twilight. He had been ‘rediscovered’ more than once, I styled a shoot with Mr. Hurrell with Farrah Fawcett for Rolling Stone in 1981, Hair and makeup took a ridiculous amount of time. There was much smoozing in the dressing room and nobody seemed in a hurry. Mr. Hurrell paced and paced. He told me he was never used to it. I sad in for some lightening and he sent me a photo, however lost among my chaos. I knew then I was in the presence of a legend. However, he was a very unassuming man. Plain dressed, one would never have realized his legend. A once in a lifetime experience for me. I will add a link to the photos if allowed. I don’t live a ‘coffee table’ life, however this is one I cannot resist…
How VERY cool! Please do add a link to the photos, I would love to see them!
I thought I had them in one FB album but no??? so I will add a couple of links. I know this is among the RS archives. I will find and be back! I did a great job, very proud!
I can’t wait for this book to come out! I have the Hollywood Portraits one that came out a number of years ago (with Crawford & Tone on the cover) and that one was pretty magnificent, so I’m looking forward to buying this one too. Plus, I really like Mark A. Vieira. His books are always nicely done.
The man was a genius, he even managed to give Ouida Rathbone cheekbones 🙂
These photos are stunning. I need this book.
I have several other Hurrell books and many Hurrell photographs. I never tire of looking at them. This will be another book I’ll have to have.
